Rob led a spin class and was then joined by John Joseph, Author of The Evolution of a Cro-Magnon and the PMS Effect, to discuss his book and share about their recovery journey.

Thank you to Andrew MacPhail for sharing your experience strength and hope at Sober Active NYC’s kickoff event in January.

Andrew is a sober athlete. A passionate runner, he has completed all 6 World Marathon Majors - Berlin, Boston, Chicago, London, New York City, and Tokyo. Andrew completed his 22nd marathon this November in New York City. He’s a member of Front Runners New York, New York Road Runners, and the Abbott World Marathon Majors Gold Club.

To kick off 2025, Kallup McCoy and Rez Hope joined Sober Active NYC at Gym U and Shrumz cafe in NYC for the premiere of Runner’s High and a fun run from Gym U to Times Square. Thanks to everyone who came out including New Yorker’s Andrew MacPhail, Rashida Sykes and Jeremy Ritz.

Thank you to Jeremy Ritz for sharing your experience strength and hope at Sober Active NYC’s kickoff event in January.   Jeremy is an avid runner and aiming to complete his 13th marathon this Fall.

He discovered the joy of running after entering recovery almost 18 years ago and finds the complement of the two go hand in hand. He spends his free time running, reading and hanging with his partner and dog.

Thank you to Rashida Sykes of New York’s Educational Alliance for sharing her passion for the sober active solution at Sober Active NYC’s kickoff event in January.

Rashida is a life-long New Yorker and the single Mom of three boys: Jelani (25), Jahtiba (19), and Javari (10). They live together in Brooklyn, New York. Rashida is a person in recovery who has used fitness and running to overcome her own struggles with addiction.

Early in her recovery, Rashida began running in Prospect Park in Brooklyn and over the years, has integrated weight-training and other forms of exercise into her lifestyle.
